Last year I was introduced to Botannix Yoga Studio by my husband Dean Quirke who at the time was completing his 200 hour teacher training course with Jeff and the team. When I first came to Botannix Yoga, I was nervous as I was completely new to yoga. I worried that I wouldn’t be able to do the poses, balance on one leg or be flexible enough! I shouldn’t have worried because everyone was very friendly, warm and supportive and the space overlooking the gardens was so tranquil and serene. To me, yoga is more than just exercise or stretching. It has taught me many things, even in this short time that I’ve been practising. One thing yoga has taught me is the importance of breathing.I’m not sure if you can relate, but for me, I find there are days when I catch myself not breathing. I’m too busy doing and thinking that somehow I’ve forgotten to breathe and my breath is shallow. Yoga has taught me the breath is our life force so if I’m feeling low in energy, sluggish, lethargic or depressed, I’ve learnt to focus back on my breath which brings me back to the present moment.
I love this quote Lori Dahm shared in one of her classes – “Being aware of your breath forces you into the present moment – the key to all inner transformation. Whenever you are conscious of the breath, you are absolutely present. You may also notice that you cannot think and be aware of your breathing. Conscious breathing stops your mind.” – Eckhart Tolle
Thank you Jeff and Amy for introducing me to the Botannix Yoga community and I look forward to meeting you all in person at the classes.
