Salute the sun this Summer Solstice for an end of year celebration!

Join us for Summer Solstice at Botannix Yoga! Friday 21st Dec 5.30pm – 6.45pm

Friday 21st December is the Summer Solstice where the sun is at its highest point in the sky. Energetically we are at our most expansive. So to harness this energy we are inviting you to join in a collective 108 salutes to the sun. The aim is for those attending class to go through a variety of styles of salutes to the sun and collectively aim for a total of 108. The number 108 has many important and symbolic meanings in diverse disciplines ranging from mathematics to religions and spiritual practices, and yoga.

To call out just a few examples:

  • There are said to be a total of 108 nadis (energy lines) converging to and from Anahata, the heart chakra.
  • There are 54 letters in the Sanskrit alphabet. Each has masculine and feminine, Shiva and Shakti – 54 x 2 = 108.
  • In both Buddhism and Hinduism recitations of prayers, mantras and chants are counted bead by bead on Malas. Buddhist malas traditionally have 108 beads.
  • In mathematics: 1 to 1st power = 1; 2 to 2nd power = 4 (2×2); 3 to 3rd power = 27 (3x3x3). 1x4x27 = 108

This is an opportunity to invigorate your practice, feel the uplift and focus on offering your hard work as selfless service. To practice, we hope you can make a small donation to a soon-to-be-announced charity!
