As 2017 nears an end let’s pause to reflect on all those who have come before us, honouring the lineage of our blood family (our parents, grandparents, ancestors), our spiritual family (our gurus, guides and mentors) as well as the original custodians of the land. In the yoga tradition there is a chant we sing as a way of honouring our creators (our ancestry), our preservers (those who keep us even keeled during times of strife)and even our destroyers (those with whom we have been in conflict). Through this chant, called The Guru Chant, we come to see all of life’s experiences as opportunities for growth. We come to see the trials and tribulations of our lives as doorways into our higher spiritual self.
Guru Brahma, guru Vishnu, guru devo Maheshwara,
Guru sakshat, param Brahma
Tasmai shri gurave namah
We bow our heads and honour the guru who comes in many forms
-from Guru Stotram
It has been another full and rich year at Botannix Yoga where we have seen our lineage flourish. Membership at our home studio continued to grow with more and more wonderful souls becoming part of our community and bringing yoga into their lives both on and off the mat. Week after week, you show up. I’ve heard it said that yoga is always there for you. That all you have to do is show up. But showing up is often the harder part. I know from personal experience that sometimes it feels easier not to show up. But if YOU don’t show up, WE don’t get to show up and do what we love doing. So the Botannix team as a WHOLE wishes to express our immense gratitude for the on-going commitment to the studio and to the practice, and for the willingness to show up time and time again demonstrated by our members.
Reflecting on the year has revealed just how much has been on offer. The year began with a Beginners Program unlike any we’ve seen before. It started with a bang and from there evolved into a range of successful courses and workshops with Amy and Erika at the helm. Our senior teachers also presented a range of workshops including Lori’s powerful Goddess series, Karen’s seasonal yin immersions and Sanchia’s practical Remedial Yoga series.
Our teacher training program has also seen another successful year. Our level one 200 hour training program graduated 2 more groups of passionate, devoted teachers into the yoga teaching community. In addition, another group of apprentices also completed our unique 60 hour Yoga Teacher mentorship program, delving deeper into what it really means to live and teach yoga. From these groups we have welcomed several new instructors into the Botannix Yoga family of teachers, including Dylan, Sarah, Ruth, Sally and Brooke.
To all of the teachers at Botannix Yoga, Andy and I wanted to express our heart-felt gratitude for the continued dedication and for your support not only to our students and the studio but to us personally. It is only because of the confidence you have inspired in us that we have been able to follow our hearts, live our dreams and discover our dharma. Together, Andy and I have realised our shared purpose of creating and holding space. Literally, creating sacred space, such as the garden studio in Botany and Vanam Retreat in the Blue Mountains and in creating what is hopefully a safe, caring, authentic space to do the deeply personal work of emotional and spiritual healing.
Knowing that we have to love and support of our community of studio members, teachers and friends makes it possible and worthwhile and that is something we do not take for granted. From the bottom of our hearts and the depths of our souls we thank you all and wish you all the best for a safe & happy holiday season and a prosperous 2018.
With love& light,
